Tia Architto

was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. In January 1993 she debuts with director Janice Honeyman in the musical “Once on this Island” at the Natal Playhouse and Nico Malan Theatre in Cape Town. Tia continues her theatrical career in South Africa doing many shows at the Civic Theatre Johannesburg, including “Godspell”, “Leader of the Pack”  “In Concert The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber” and “ Jukebox Jol!”

In 1997 she moves to Milan where she is resident singer at one of Milan’s foremost jazz clubs with The New Romantic Orchestra a 13 piece jazz and swing big band, singing on their CD “Caruso”. She tours Italy and Switzerland with various bands. In 2000 Tia returns to Johannesburg where she collaborates with Colin Law on the Blues brothers musical “Jailhouse Rock” at the Civic Theatre and “Mercury Rising” which ran at the Civic and at the State Theatre, Pretoria. These two shows earned Tia 2 FNB Vita Award nominations for best supporting actress in a musical, and best actress in a musical in 2001. For SABC TV Tia has had small roles in Suburban Bliss and Generations.
In 2002 Tia moved to Rome where she is now based, she was lead singer for the 1970’s disco revival band ADIKAPONGO with whom she did the Coca Cola Beach Tour in 2002 and the RDS Tour Dei Pirati in 2003 doing 42 gigs in 60 days throughout Italy.
With ADIKAPONGO, Tia recorded jingles for TV and sang with international stars such a s Lionel Ritchie. For Italian TV Tia has been featured in the Saturday Night Variety show on Canale5  “Sei Un Mito” with Teo Teocoli, where she won a prize for her impersonation of Aretha Franklin. Tia was resident singer at SUPPERCLUB Rome and sings at SUPPERCLUB locations worldwide. Her love for music has taken her into the studio where she composes lounge and dance songs collaborating with various dj’s  her song “Feel the Love” with dj Cristian Marchi is currently on the charts, Tia’s songs have been included in Cafè del Mar compilations. The single “Ready To Take Off” was included in an important house compilation GILDA Gold House Collection which sold 500000 copies.
At the end of 2006, Tia worked on “Menopause The Musical” at the Montecasino Theatre for Hazel Feldman and Peter Torien, and in January 2007 Tia was cast in “Menopause The Musical” for the Italian tour with Marisa Laurito, Fioretta Mari and Fiordaliso.
sister act tia In the last few years Tia has worked with the director Massimo Romeo Piparo in Hairspray (Grasso è bello) in the role of Motormouth Maybelle, in Cenerentola The Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella in the role of the Queen. Tia also starred as Dionne in the musical HAIR and in SISTER ACT at the Teatro Nazionale in Milan for Stage Entertainment she starred in the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier

Tia is a vocally strong performer with a great extension, a full colored soprano equally at ease singing low notes, jazz, soul and musical theatre. Has many years experience in musical theatre, clubs, small cabaret venues, and open air concerts for thousands in festivals. As an actress Tia has done theatre, film ,television and stand-up comedy writing her own material  and was part of “Comic Bytes” an audience participation theatre sports group. Luckily she has been able to play roles in the past decade spanning from 20 something year olds to 50 something year olds. She has also played a variety of ethnicities , Italian, Jewish, Nicaraguan, African American, Egyptian, Caribbean.
